Lorraine Kemble

I am a Healer, Master Reiki Practitioner and Counsellor. I consider myself to be a highly creative being and I have an incredible life story to tell. Overcoming many obstacles and stumbling blocks, I am continuing to build up a huge understanding and awareness of healing from my own personal experience. I also maintain a great deal of respect for and learning from the wisdom of ancient philosophers. For a long time, I have known that my true purpose in this incarnation is to be a teacher, which carries a huge responsibility to the students with whom I share my knowledge.

My disability has been both a major crisis in my life and also one of my greatest learning experiences. I want to use that tool, carry it forward and help other people as much as I can.

In my early twenties, after years of suffering excruciatingly painful headaches which had been consistently mis-diagnosed as migraine, it was was eventually discovered that I had a huge, deep-seated brain tumour which was pressing on vital nerves. Two major operations left me unable to function, fighting considerable brain damage and, inevitably, robbed me of an incredibly large part of my formative years. I had to learn to walk, talk and perform simple everyday tasks from scratch, alongside facing myriad challenges.

Since then I have studied meditation, healing techniques, pain management and have developed a strong interest in holistic health. I have also expanded my therapeutic skills and techniques into counselling and psychotherapy; I am fascinated by how the brain works.

The writing of my book: ‘The Jigsaw Puzzle’, - essentially about my experience - has helped me to realise that it is an analogy to life. Every individual has a jigsaw puzzle which interconnects - to a greater or lesser degree - with other people’s jigsaw puzzles. As I see it, everyone’s life makes up a massive puzzle, which has to be understood, worked out and put together in the right order. The difficult part is the picture changing growing and evolving, so pieces are changing shape and needing complex thought.

I was born in the Year of the Snake. Snakes have been associated with some of the oldest rituals known to humankind and represent dual expressions of good and evil. As snakes shed their skin through sloughing, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality and healing. Historically, serpents and snakes represent fertility or a creative life force.

I want to offer support to other brain tumour sufferers or, indeed, anybody in need of help. I have been told countless times that I am an exceptionally inspirational person; a real fighter! It certainly feels that I am engaged in a battle; the battle to lead my life as normally as possible. I find this both challenging and sometimes impossible. The important message is that everybody has a purpose in life. Nobody is born in perfect health but it is in everyone’s power to make the most of their life and fulfil their potential.

I have encompassed a huge act of faith, surrender and vulnerability, the purpose of which has been to open people’s hearts; this is in order that they may find their way to a full, rich and meaningful life.

Authentic fulfilment, accomplishment and realisation have helped me to develop in my role as a teacher. I see it as helping myself through helping others – being both a student and a teacher simultaneously. It is my inherent belief that: “We teach best what we most need to learn”.

It is my sincere hope that others will feel free to join me at any point on my eventful journey. Something I have a tendency to forget from time to time, is that we must all remember to have fun whilst we are on this mammoth learning curve!
