Colour Therapy

What is Colour Therapy?

Colour is all around us. In Nature, our home, our garden, neighbourhood, the city and in the glorious elements; everything radiates brilliant colour.

Colour Therapy is a vibration healing philosophy. It utilises the energies within living organisms such as plants, gem stones, crystals, water, sunlight and sound to enhance health, defeat disease and restore balance within the whole body.

The use of Colour is a truly holistic, non-invasive and powerful therapy which dates back thousands of years; evidence of this can be found in ancient texts from India, China and Egypt.

Many practitioners use Colour Therapy in conjunction with other alternative medicine practices such as Aromatherapy, Massage Therapy, Reflexology and Yoga.

How can Colour Therapy help?

Sadly, due to rushing through our busy lives, we often have no time to embrace the colourful environment that is constantly around us. All colours have a unique frequency, wavelength and energy. Colour Therapy provides an opportunity to acknowledge the colours that we interact with daily and utilise their properties that correspond with cells and organs in the body to enhance health.

Disease is a sign that the body, mind and spirit are deficient in certain colours. As always, lifestyle can cause the shortage or improper use of colour, along with a person's environment or condition of stress.

Meaning of Colours

Red is associated with Vitality, Energy, Courage, Power and Sexuality. Powerful in healing blood disease, circulation problems, increasing blood pressure, depression and enhancing confidence and willpower.

Orange is associated with Optimism, Independence and Happiness. Orange regulates circulation, metabolism, helps defeat chest and kidney diseases and it has an ability to energize.

Indigo is associated with Intuition, Imagination, Understanding and Purification. Indigo helps people connect to their spirituality and enhance creativity.

Yellow is associated with Mental Ability, Increased Awareness, Wisdom and Clarity. Yellow is very effective in relieving depression and headaches; it has the ability to improve memory and awareness. It also stimulates appetite.

Green is associated with Growth, Healing and Calming. Green is the overall colour of healing. Green helps calm nerves, relax both mentally and physically; it promotes self control and harmony.

Blue is associated with Peace, Knowledge, Health and Faith. Blue lowers blood pressure, decreases respiration, helps induce sleep and enhances communication.

Purple relates to the crown chakra which is situated at the top of the head. The related organ to this chakra is the brain and the endocrine gland is the pineal gland. This colour is known as one of the "cool" colours. It has a very calming effect on us and is, therefore, very helpful for those people experiencing sleep difficulties or stress. However, it can be contra-indicated for those suffering from depressive disorders.

I hope you enjoy experimenting with different shades of colour. You might be surprised by the results!
